SCNX outbound requests
What this is
This server makes outbound HTTP requests for Discord bots hosted on SCNX. Every request exists because one of our customers set it up: a Discord community adds a feed address so its bot posts new entries, or configures an automation that calls a service of their choosing.
This service only requests addresses a customer configured. It does not crawl, it does not follow links it finds in a page, and it never discovers addresses on its own.
It contacts public internet addresses only, follows at most three redirects and re-checks each one, limits how much it will download, and gives up rather than holding a connection open.
What it sends
Every request identifies itself with the User-Agent SCNX-Egress/1.0 (+https://egress-1.scnx.app; operations@scnx.xyz).
Feeds. One plain HTTP GET for the feed address, over http or https on port 80 or 443. It sends If-None-Match and If-Modified-Since once it has seen a feed before, so an unchanged feed can answer 304 Not Modified instead of sending the body again. A feed is fetched at most once every five minutes, however many Discord communities follow it.
Requests from a customer's automation. These run when that customer's automation runs, so there is no fixed schedule. They may use other HTTP methods, may send data, and may carry credentials that the customer configured for your service.
Why you might see this address
If this address appears in your access logs, firewall or intrusion detection, one of our customers configured something that points at you: a feed you publish, or an automation of theirs that calls your service.
Stop the requests
If you do not want this service contacting your site, request an opt-out. Once your request is handled, this service stops contacting it.
An opt-out covers every kind of request from this address. If the traffic comes from an automation one of your own users set up, stopping it here also stops it working for them, so you may prefer to tell us about that case in the form.
